Beautiful Bookends
What is a beautiful bookend?
Creating transitions throughout our day can be important or signalling when we need to be “on” or “off” either from work, or other duties in our life (volunteering, caretaking, being a parent). With many aspects of work and other responsibilities that typically remained outside the home moving virtually or inside the home (during and post pandemic), developing routines to turn off remains extremely important. We can think of these transitions as “bookends” (an idea we were exposed to when working with Greg Wells) to our day and create beautiful rituals that are just for us and our mental well-being.
Examples of bookends include:
Going for a walk before and after work
Packing up electronics and putting them out of sight
Changing our clothes for our work day
Squeezing in a quick work out before work
Taking 5 minutes to journal either before or after work
Completing a skin care regimen
Practicing some stretching or mobility exercises
Calling a friend or family member
Brewing yourself a tea or coffee to enjoy sans laptop/work
What do your bookends look like?
